- Cultural gatekeeping works just like this. If White people were never allowed to make noodles, we might not have pasta today. If Japan had had to pay Europeans and Americans for the idea of animation, we might not have anime. And so on. Cultural riffing has produced most of the fun culture in the world, and if we allow Twitter mobs to interrupt that riffing process, we cut ourselves off from a lot of cool new stuff.
